HAUS FIT™

FAQS

Custom or At-Home Heat Molded Guards?

At Guard Haus, we always recommend a custom sports guard for optimal protection, fit, and performance.

Custom guards are designed specifically to your anatomy, providing a secure fit that allows for better breathing, communication, and consistent impact protection during play.

At-home heat molded (boil-and-bite) guards can be a temporary option, but they often result in bulky fit, uneven thickness, and reduced long-term durability.

When is a custom guard not ideal?

A heat-molded or flexible option may be more appropriate if:

  • The athlete is under the age of 12 and still has active tooth development (baby teeth present)
  • The athlete has active orthodontic appliances, such as:Braces,Aligner attachments, Herbst or other functional appliances

In these cases, a guard may need to accommodate ongoing tooth movement or hardware changes.

Our Recommendation:

If there are no active changes occurring in the mouth, a custom, non-active appliance is always the best choice to ensure:

  • Maximum protection
  • Consistent fit
  • Long-term durability

How Long Will a Custom Sports Guard Last?

After the age of 13 with proper care, a custom sports guard can last multiple seasons while maintaining its fit and protective performance.

To extend the life of your guard, we recommend:

  • Avoiding chewing or biting on the guard
  • Cleaning regularly (without over-scrubbing or harsh chemicals)
  • Storing in a protective case
  • Keeping away from extreme heat, cold, and pets

When Should It Be Replaced?

Your guard should be replaced immediately if you notice:

  • Cracks or structural damage
  • Changes in fit or looseness
  • Significant wear from use or chewing
  • Any dental changes (new dental work, shifting, orthodontics)

What Are The Guards made Out Of?

Once digitally scanned, your Haus Fit guard is custom designed and professionally fabricated using premium German-made EVA performance material. Manufactured under internationally recognized quality standards, this advanced material delivers a precise fit, exceptional durability and superior protection.

What Makes This Different To Other Custom Guards?

Side Hustle Providers
Dental assistants, hygienists or sports guard providers typically charge $55-$90 for team-based guards. While many offer custom guards, they often rely on traditional impressions rather than advanced digital scanning and lab fabrication. This can result in a bulkier fit, reduced accuracy and inconsistent protection.

Dental Clinics
Many dental clinics offer custom sports guards using either digital scanning or traditional impressions. Prices typically range from $350-$500, with insurance coverage sometimes available depending on your plan.

Online Custom Guards
Most online companies mail an at-home impression kit that you complete and return for fabrication. While marketed as custom, they rely on self-taken impressions, traditional materials and shipping, with prices typically ranging from $199-$395.

Guard Haus™
Guard Haus combines digital scanning, premium German Thermoflex™ material and professional custom fabrication starting at just $79. There are no messy impressions, choose from 12 core colours and optional custom decal for each guard!
